Our Prayerful Response to the Iraq Crisis

Sunset Prayer

Our Session has approved a threefold strategy to respond to the Iraq crisis as ISIS continues to persecute and brutally slaughter Christians and minority groups:

  • An ecumenical prayer service on the evening of Wednesday, October 15 in our sanctuary.
  • An intentional prayer time on Wednesdays from 12:00–12:30 p.m. when we pray in silence for the families who mourn, are persecuted, and are fleeing their homes as a result of the tyranny of ISIS. This will not take place at any particular location, only from the convenience of your own home/office space, etc. For this week, as you pray, reflect on the passage from Matthew 5 (the Sermon on the Mount): “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.  Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
  • An opportunity to give financially to an organization that offers humanitarian relief to Iraq refugees (see flyer in your bulletin on Sunday morning).
