Thank You for Your One Great Hour of Sharing Gifts!

One Great Hour of SharingThank you for your generous giving toward One Great Hour of Sharing. Your gift will be a blessing to many in need throughout our nation and world.

If you have not yet given to OGHS, you may still do so by writing a check, designating it to OGHS, and placing it in the church offering or in the church office.

Your gift will support Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Presbyterian Hunger Program, and the Self-Development of People.

On a Pastoral Note: The Billion Dollar Question…

DollarsWhat would you do with a billion dollars?

Today’s “March Madness” selections begin a three-day window when anyone with all the bracket winners can win a billion dollars from Warren Buffett. Have you thought of the first investment/expenditure you would make?

This is a good test of how reformed (or “redeemed”) our spirituality is, because it really is the question of whether our first thought is how we would give it away. If all the world (including money) belongs to the Lord, then were your first thoughts on how to serve God by giving that money so God’s love can be known? If your first thought wasn’t toward gifting, then ask yourself, “Why not?”

The odds for winning the money are 1:4,294,967,296. You have a better chance to be struck by lightning…or to commit your life to Jesus Christ!

Investing in Your Church: 2014

BurlPresThe heart and soul of our church is commitment—first (of course) is Christ’s commitment to us, next is our commitment to Him, and then our commitment to each other and the world around us.

Financial commitment is a strong part of this now as in Bible times. Our church’s growing and impactful ministries need pledge commitment from all of us, and so far we have received substantial total pledging for 2014 of $1,430,000.

Are your intentions and dreams for 2014 complete? If you haven’t already pledged, please turn in your 2014 pledge for the work and ministry of God here at BurlPres.

Financial commitment is a strong part of this now as in Bible times. Our church’s growing and impactful ministries need pledge commitment from all of us and so far we have received substantial total pledging for 2014 of $1,425,000. We are making this last and final plea before we cut ministry program and personnel—please pledge or increase your pledge if you can. Now is the time!

It is said that the Roman army was halted in its march to battle by a pebble in the shoe of one soldier. Let our church not be halted in our march to God’s glory on earth by the shortfall of $75,000 of pledge income for 2014!

Thanksgiving Basket Sign-Ups Start October 27!

Thanksgiving BasketsOnce again our church confirmation class will be collecting 130 boxes of food for families who live in San Mateo County.

This outreach project is done in partnership with CALL (Christian Action Life Line) Primrose for those in our community who are in need. It is a tangible and personal way to share some of our plenty with our brothers and sisters in Christ during the holiday season.

One big box of food plus a gift card to cover fresh food and other ingredients can make a Thanksgiving feast! The boxes will be delivered to the CALL Center in time for delivery to families before Thanksgiving. Your family can sign up to sponsor one of these families beginning next Sunday, October 27. When you sign up we will provide you with more instructions. Childcare is available with at least 48 hour advance reservation: (650) 342-3118 x309.
