On a Pastoral Note: In This Week of Lent…

Cross at SunsetToday begins the penultimate week of Lent—all that remains after this is Holy Week, the last week of Jesus’ life.

May we each consider how to welcome Him into our hearts (Palm Sunday), how to receive from Him the symbols of salvation (Maundy Thursday night), how to allow His suffering into our hearts (Good Friday afternoon), and how to experience victory over evil through God’s power and love (Easter).

Keep praying all this week—the end of Lent is coming into sight; a spiritual new day will soon be dawning.

Holy Week @ BurlPres

Holy WeekJesus journeys from a Palm Sunday parade of adoration on April 13, through a Last Supper and his Maundy Thursday arrest on April 17, into his conviction and crucifixion on Good Friday, April 18, and then to his Resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday, April 20. Please join us for these deeply meaningful worship experiences:

Maundy Thursday, April 17

Join us for a Christian Seder at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday night in Fellowship Hall. This celebrative worship experience is based on a traditional Jewish celebration of Passover, but adapted into a uniquely Christian celebration concluding with Holy Communion. Led by Pastor Linda Galligan. Childcare is available for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Good Friday, April 18

A worship service at 12 noon in our Sanctuary takes us through the ‘Stations of the Cross,’ as we experience the darkness of that day. Accompanied by fine art projections on the sails, the singing is led by the Chancel Choir Ensemble. Childcare is available for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Easter, April 20

Christ Is Risen! We celebrate at a 6:00 a.m. sunrise service at Coyote Point Park, Eucalyptus Site 2 (bring a blanket). Then we celebrate joyously in our Sanctuary, led by the Chancel Choir and Chancel Handbells, at two identical services at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Faith and love prevail!

On a Pastoral Note

Palm SundayPalm Sunday is one of the most festive days of the year. I look forward to sharing it with each of you as we begin Holy Week.

Jesus entered Jerusalem for a final showdown with evil–it is where he suffered and sacrificed his life and then was resurrected. Would you say his time in Jerusalem was good or bad? In your life, when is sacrifice and suffering worth it?

Come and pray about these things with us in church this week!
