On a Pastoral Note: Seasons of Life (Springtime)

YouthOn Sunday we began a three-week sermon series on the “Seasons of Life,” beginning with childhood and youth.

While we are actually blending two very different life stages, we will discover together that children of all ages need older Christians (“mentors” in the faith) to share their experience of growth, stability, and resilience that will equip them for their adult years.

Can you name three children or young people at BurlPres whom you can begin to take a special and caring interest in at the church? How about beyond the church, even beyond your family—are there at least three in each category: church, family, and beyond?

Be a Camp Counselor: Change a Life

TeensOur middle school ministry has over 30 young teens attending Dirt Camp on August 3 – 9.

Our JAM ministry continues to look for men and women who have a heart for ministry to teens, love Jesus, and are connected to the life of FPCB. Counselors take part in a five-part process that equips them to create inclusive environments and facilitate spiritual dialogue.

If interested in a deep investment and an exhilarating week of meeting teens where they are at, contact rmedina@burlpres.org.

Confirmation Class: Sunday, September 22, 12:15 p.m.

Confirmation ClassEach year the church offers a Confirmation class for high school students to explore what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and to be a member in the church. During this six-month course, students are paired with a mentor, take part in encouragement meetings, attend a weekend retreat, and participate in a variety of activities and learning experiences.

We are hosting an introductory luncheon for parents and their teens on Sunday, September 22, at 12:15 p.m. in CMC 204, where you will be given all the dates and detailed information about the course.

To sign up your child, please contact Jackie Gainer at jgainer@burlpres.org or Pastor Linda Galligan at lgalligan@burlpres.org.

We Need Confirmation Mentors!

TeensBeing a Confirmation Mentor is a way of being part of God’s story as you partner with a high school student and walk alongside them, sharing your faith. You do not need to be an ordained minister. You do not need to be a Bible scholar. All you need is a desire to share your love of God with a young person.

This year BurlPres needs committed men and women to share their faith as mentors in our confirmation program. This involves studying together one of the gospels and attending encouragement meetings with the students throughout the six-month course.

If you are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a mentor, please contact Pastor Linda Sanford Galligan at (650) 342-0875, ext. 227, or lgalligan@burlpres.org.

Thank you for your support of this very important ministry to our youth and their families!
